About
An overview of the practice, my background as a clinical psychologist, and the therapeutic approach I use to support clients and patients.
About the Practice
My practice is located in Somerset West in Cape Town, from where I consult either in-person or online.
The primary psychological services I provide include psychological assessments and psychotherapy, mostly for older adolescents and adults.
Clients and patients will find the space to be private, discrete, and supportive to work through personal challenges, explore and learn more about their emotional and psychological functioning, and manage their mental health well-being.

About
About Me
I am a clinical psychologist in independent practice, registered with the Health Professions Council of South Africa since 2015.
Before training and registering as a psychologist, I worked in the corporate sector in banking, finance, and property for approximately 15 years. During my early 40's, I completed my clinical psychology academic training at Stellenbosch University, obtaining a BSc (Honours) in Psychology and an MSc in Clinical Psychology.
After my academic studies, I completed my clinical internship through the Department of Psychiatry and Mental Health at the University of Cape Town and at several inpatient and outpatient hospital settings, including Valkenberg Psychiatric Hospital and Groote Schuur Hospital. Thereafter, I completed a public service year at Abraham Esau District Hospital while also providing clinical services to several Community Health Centres in the Southern Karoo region.
Professional and Practice Interests
My professional and practice interests include psychotherapy and other clinical psychology services that may support individuals experiencing difficulties with:
- Anxiety and stress
- Mood difficulties such as depression, irritability, anger, or persistent mood changes
- Relationship difficulties within personal, family, or workplace contexts
- Trauma, loss, bereavement and grief
- Transitional or life-change challenges, including parenthood, separation, and mid-life challenges
- Professional or career-related challenges
- Personal meaning and existential questioning
Practice and Clinical Approach
In practice, clients and patients may expect to first undergo a clinical assessment during the first 4 - 6 consultations. This provides an important opportunity to identify and understand the reasons for seeking out a psychologist, for clients and patients to set personal goals, and for me to plan the most appropriate path ahead.
I practice psychotherapy primarily from an integrative psychodynamic framework. This means that I foreground developing a working relationship with my clients and patients so as to come to understand and make sense of the thoughts, feelings and behaviours that may be causing distress in their lives.
At times, I may suggest a referral to another specialist, should this be appropriate - this may be another psychologist (e.g. a therapist who may work with couples), a psychiatrist (e.g. if medication may be beneficial), your GP, amongst others.
I draw on evidence-based approaches within my overall practice and maintain an ongoing commitment to reflective professional development.
